Valentine's Day.

Who was Valentine and why is it associated with love?Valentine's Day is in the popular calendar, especially in the stores of various countries of the world.February 14 is the day to celebrate love and friendship.

Based on several legends, historians believe that the current Valentine's Day has its origin in a festival of Ancient Rome.

The party marked the beginning of spring and celebrated fertility. It was, then, a pagan festival. In the year 494 after Christ, Pope Gelasius I decided to turn it into a festival. For this, he needed a saint And he chose Valentine.

So it was that on February 14, 494, it was the first day of Valentine's Day. But today it is not clear who was that martyr.According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, the saint whose holiday fell on the date known today as Valentine's Day was possibly one of the three martyrs executed at the time of the Roman Empire.A Roman doctor who became a priest and whom the Emperor Claudius "The Gothic" ordered beheaded in the year 270.A bishop of the city of Interamna, currently Terni, Italy. The rest of its body is conserved in the basilica of the city, and the patronal feast is celebrated the 14 of February.

A bishop also called Valentin de Recia who lived in the fifth century. But the best known story is that of the first, that of the Roman doctor who embraced the Christian faith and was ordained a priest.

At that time, in the year 270 BC, Emperor Claudius II forbade the marriage of young people, because according to him, the single men without children were better soldiers.According to the story, the priest Valentin considered the decree unfair and challenged the emperor. And secretly to young couples. The actions of the priests irritated the emperor and brought him to the palace and ordered him to be beheaded.

And so it is now considered Valentine patron of lovers.

The Catholic Church does not consider it a holiday, only that it became a big business in the twentieth centuryfor those of greeting cards, in one of the most frequent love or friendship demonstrations on Valentine's Day.

Thanksgiving

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the United States

Jennie Augusta Brownscombe, The First Thanksgiving at Plymouth, 1914, Pilgrim Hall Museum, Plymouth, Massachusetts

Jennie Augusta Brownscombe, Thanksgiving at Plymouth, 1925, National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.
Pilgrims and Puritans who emigrated from England in the 1620s and 1630s carried the tradition of Days of Fasting and Days of Thanksgiving with them to New England. The modern Thanksgiving holiday tradition is traced to a well-recorded 1619 event in Virginia and a sparsely documented 1621 celebration at Plymouth in present-day Massachusetts. The 1619 arrival of 38 English settlers at Berkeley Hundred in Charles City County, Virginia, concluded with a religious celebration as dictated by the group's charter from the London Company, which specifically required "that the day of our ships arrival at the place assigned ... in the land of Virginia shall be yearly and perpetually kept holy as a day of thanksgiving to Almighty God." The 1621 Plymouth feast and thanksgiving was prompted by a good harvest, which the Pilgrims celebrated with Native Americans, who helped them get through the previous winter by giving them food in that time of scarcity.[7][8][9]
Several days of Thanksgiving were held in early New England history that have been identified as the "First Thanksgiving", including Pilgrim holidays in Plymouth in 1621 and 1623, and a Puritan holiday in Boston in 1631.[10][11] According to historian Jeremy Bangs, director of the Leiden American Pilgrim Museum, the Pilgrims may have been influenced by watching the annual services of Thanksgiving for the relief of the siege of Leiden in 1574, while they were staying in Leiden.[12] Now called Oktober Feest, Leiden's autumn thanksgiving celebration in 1617 was the occasion for sectarian disturbance that appears to have accelerated the pilgrims' plans to emigrate to America.[13] Later in Massachusetts, religious thanksgiving services were declared by civil leaders such as Governor Bradford, who planned the colony's thanksgiving celebration and fast in 1623.[14][15][16] The practice of holding an annual harvest festival did not become a regular affair in New England until the late 1660s.[17]
Thanksgiving proclamations were made mostly by church leaders in New England up until 1682, and then by both state and church leaders until after the American Revolution. During the revolutionary period, political influences affected the issuance of Thanksgiving proclamations. Various proclamations were made by royal governors, John Hancock, General George Washington, and the Continental Congress,[18] each giving thanks to God for events favorable to their causes.[19] As President of the United States, George Washington proclaimed the first nationwide thanksgiving celebration in America marking November 26, 1789, "as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favours of Almighty God".[20]

Black friday ...

The history of black friday originated in Philadelphia
where it was called to describe the dense traffic of people and vehicles
They filled the streets the day after Thanksgiving.
For the year of 1961 among the police officers
responsible for traffic regulation, popularizing around 1966,
and extending to the rest of the states from 1975.
Later, an alternative explanation emerged, referring to the term "black"
to the accounts of the stores, which go from red to black numbers thanks to the surplus.
Black Friday is not a holiday,
but many entrepreneurs see this day as a holiday along with Thanksgiving,
giving employees a day off, in fact increasing the total number of potential buyers.
It is usually the day of greatest commercial movement of the whole year.

The best season in New York city !

Christmas it’s the most wonderful time of the year.

One of New York City’s biggest holiday traditions,  Christmas in Rockefeller Center tree lighting,
this year's 2017 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, a 75-foot Norway Spruce from Jason Perrin in State College,
 Pennsylvania,
The show is broadcasted to millions of viewers watching from home.

Since the Great Depression, the Rockefeller Center Tree has been the symbol of Christmas in New York City the first official tree lighting was in 1933 .

And  hundreds of thousands of visitors passing by each day while the tree is on display.
Between West 48th and 51st streets and Fifth and Sixth avenues. Is the ceremony free and open to the public.
And there will be a large crowd, as tens of thousands of New Yorkers and visitors from around the world come to view the lighting each year.
More than 50,000 lights will brighten up the tree this year with a sparkling .
At the top stunning Swarovski star is comprised of 25,000 crystals with one million facets .
This is 85th Christmas tree and will be on display until January 7, 2018.

The Christmas tree or Christmas tree is a decorative element ,
  typical of the Christmas party.

Traditionally an evergreen conifer is traditionally used,
highlighting among them the fir species (abies nordmanniana).
Nowadays, the use of artificial trees is also very popular,
of plastic and other synthetic materials.
It is decorated with ornaments such as colored balls of glass or other less fragile material,

lights, stars, bows, tinsel, garlands or other decorations. It is possible that the first Christmas tree,
  as it is known today,
it arose in Germany, where it was implanted for the first time in 1605 to acclimate the cold of Christmas.
